I’ll be showing you how to create your very own website using WordPress. WordPress is the worlds most popular website builder.

This is an interactive workshop so you’ll be creating your very own website with my help but there will no coding required. This workshop is hands-on and you’ll be following along with me.

  • I will show you how to get  your own domain name (for example www.yourwebsite.co.uk)
  • We will then link your domain up to your website hosting.
  • Don’t worry if ou don’t have web hosting yet, I can provide free website hosting for 3 months or you can sign up for your own website hosting. I can offer advice about this on the day.
  • We will then get WordPress installed and set up.

Introduction to WordPress

  • We’ll go through what WordPress is and why we’ve chosen to use it
  • We’ll get WordPress set up
  • Take a tour and get familiar with the admin dashboard

How to structure your website

  • What pages you’ll need
  • Setting up custom navigation menus

How to create Pages and Posts

  • We’ll discuss what pages and posts are
  • What the difference is between pages and posts
  • How to publish pages and posts
  • How to add text, images and videos to pages and posts

Customising the colours and design of your website

  • We’ll find out what WordPress themes are and how you use them
  • We’ll go through how to install a WordPress theme
  • Which WordPress themes I recommend you use
  • How to edit the design and style of your website

Plugins and Functionality

  • We’ll discuss what WordPress plugins are
  • How plugins can improve your website
  • What plugins are essential for your new website
  • What other plugins you might find useful for your website
  • You’ll learn how to create a “Contact Us” page with interactive map and contact form
  • What are widgets and how to use them

Get your website found in the Search Engines

  • You’ll learn what SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is and how it can help your website
